We had our church camp last weekend. The one that Rob & I (along with our Home Group) have been organising for the past few months.
It was FAN.TAS.TIC.
After organising camp for 3 years running, we have it down to a fine art. It’s a LOT of work, both before and during the weekend, but I was nowhere near as mentally or physically exhausted as in previous years. I think that comes down to the fact that we really know what we’re doing now. Having said that, as a group we’ve decided to have a “year off” organising camp next year, so hopefully one of the other Home Groups will be willing to take up the challenge. ;-)
This year, our camp theme was “Fruit of the Spirit“. We had heaps of fun coming up with “fruity” team names, skits, games, activities, costumes and decorations.
We also got to experience all the usual camp goodness. Noisy bunk beds, noisy and hyped up children who don’t want to go to sleep at night, noisy dorm corridors, noisy teenage girls in the room next door, noisy teenage boys in the room across the hall, noisy showers RIGHT on the other side of the wall by my bed (this is all totally MY fault, since I allocated the rooms! Madness!) … do you sense another theme here?!
As a church family, we love to get together and make a lot of noise! It’s great! The games and activities we organised generated a HUGE amount of noise. Bobbing for apples in water and grapes in a bowl of flour made for LOTS of laughter, as did the Fruit of the Spirit themed skits performed by each team on Saturday night. A fruit eating relay race made for LOTS of cheering & screaming (did you know it is quite hard to eat an apple really fast? But I did my best). Fruit of the Spirit Bingo made for lots of shouting. A fruity quiz made for LOTS of whispering & yelling (and perhaps a little arguing with the judges, hehe).
My new camera came to camp with me, and got a really good workout. I took almost 200 photos in one day (for some reason I didn’t take any on the Friday or Sunday):
I thought I’d share some of my favourites.
Our team mascots:
Oh, and YES. That IS my husband on the waterslide (big kid).
To finish, I thought I’d share a story that Tyler voluntarily wrote about camp mere MINUTES after he arrived home (that kid LOVES writing). It sums everything up nicely (I’ve corrected the spelling to make it easier to read).
On Saturday [Friday, actually] I went to church camp. First we decided who will sleep in the bunk beds. Second we had a quiz. It was funtastic! Then we made a person out of fruit. My brother touched the chilli and rubbed his eyes! It stung!
On Sunday morning I heard a strange noise. I know this is hard to believe but I did. I quickly woke up but it was Daddy shuffling around and around. I thought he would be getting quite dizzy, but he wasn’t!
When I woke up we had breakfast. I had cornflakes. They were very good. All my friends were eating porridge with lots of sugar!
Then we all went to play cricket. It was extremely easy! Joke! Then we went to play on the trampolines. I had a great time! I fell over!
Then we were asked to go to the church up on the hill. So I did. Then we sang some songs!
Then we went to the Kids Church room. It was fun!!!!!!!!
At the Kids Church room I got a lolly. The lolly was like a rubber on the back of a pencil. It was as shiny as the sparkling sun.
I got 100 goodies! They were great.
