Good reports

My boys have both had a great year at school, Ethan in Year 4 and Tyler in Year 1.

Last week, they received their end-of-year reports, and also found out their teachers for 2011. Ethan has Mrs O’Brien, who actually taught Year 4 this year. Tyler has Miss Potter. They are both really happy with their teachers, and they each have friends in their class.

Because I’ve done a “report card” post in previous years, I am going to do another one. No apologies for that! This is my turf, and my space to brag about my boys. I know it may not be interesting to everybody else, and I don’t expect people to read it all (or comment on it) … but it is very important for me to record this stuff here. If we have a house fire and lose everything, I will still have everything on this here blog! ;-)

Ethan

He shows initiative when undertaking independent study and has developed excellent time management skills. Ethan has a genuine interest in learning. He is a caring and thoughtful person who works and plays cooperatively with others. Ethan has been a pleasure to teach this year. All the best for next year.

Tyler

READING
Level – Above National Standard
Effort – A (Consistent Effort)
Tyler has worked hard and can now read all but 2 words from Sets A, B and C and is reading at Level 13. He relies on visual cues and needs to attend to the whole word, rather than just the initial sounds, and to remember to use the other decoding strategies he has been shown. Tyler can retell stories he has read but misses important details to understand the key points of the text. He uses expression in his reading.

WRITING
Level – Above National Standard
Effort – A (Consistent Effort)
Tyler enjoys writing and has produced work of a high standard this year. He takes on board the ideas in the cameos we use and incorporates them successfully in his own writing. He writes about a series of events in sequence and uses a variety of sentence openers. He includes interesting, “wow” words and is beginning to use direct speech. Tyler works hard in word work and has a good understanding of digraphs. Tyler’s writing is often humourous.

LISTENING/SPEAKING/VIEWING/PRESENTING
Tyler loves to share his news with the class and brings some interesting objects to talk about. He listens carefully to others and asks sensible questions. He forms most letters correctly and the presentation of his written work is improving.

MATHEMATICS
Level – At National Standard
Effort – B (Steady Effort)
Tyler struggles with his confidence in maths but has made steady progress throughout the year. He is now able to sequence numbers to 100 and recognise numbers to 1000. To solve addition problems to 20 he is able to instantly recall some basic facts and doubles facts and will solve the others by counting on from the biggest number.

TOPIC STUDIES (SOCIAL SCIENCES, SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY)
Tyler enjoys our topic studies which include Food, Me and Games. He is beginning to ask questions and think critically. He loves using the computer.

HEALTH & PHYSICAL EDUCATION
Tyler enjoys participating in all physical activities. He is becoming more aware of healthy practices such as food, sun and water.

THE ARTS (VISUAL ART, MUSIC, DRAMA, DANCE)
Tyler is now more confident to explore different processes in art. He is pleased with his finished pieces.

KEY COMPETENCIES
Managing Self – Tyler gives his personal best and is responsible for his own actions.
Relating to Others – Tyler listens well and shares ideas.
Participating & Contributing – Tyler participates in school experiences and can successfully work alongside others.

GENERAL COMMENT
Tyler has really grown in confidence this year and has learnt to take risks with his learning, subsequently making very good academic progress. He now only needs continued encouragement in maths and occasional reassurance with other new activities. He has developed stronger friendships over the year and has become more tolerant of others. He now deals with most issues himself rather than bringing them to an adult. Tyler has a developed and mature sense of humour and can be very funny! I hope the move into Year 2 is not too difficult so that he will soon feel settled and able to build on his achievements from this year.

Proud? You bet!

  1. Proud and so you should be those are two very good reports that your boys have got there. Seem my boys school is the only one that have not let us know what teacher the kids will have next year.

  2. You are so right about the fire thing! I never thought of that and have refrained from posting things that might not be of interest to everyone – well sometimes anyway!

Ethan and Tyler are both doing so well, yay! Smart like their parents, me thinks ;)
