WW: week 12

September 9, 2008

I didn’t do a WW post last week, because we were down at the snow and I missed my weigh-in and meeting.

I weighed in last night, and I lost another 800g (1.8lb).
So after 12 weeks, I have lost a total of 8.9kg (19.6lb).

I am now just over 1kg away from my “official” goal weight. Hopefully I will reach goal next week, but I am pretty sure it will take me 2 or even 3 weeks. I seem to have hit a bit of a plateau. I know, a loss of 800g is nothing to sneeze at … but considering that was over 2 weeks, I had been hoping for more.

Having done WW in the past, I know that my body starts to hit a wall when I get really close to my ideal weight. Basically, I have been losing weight consistently for 3 months, and my body has adapted. It has gotten used to my “new” weight, and is trying hard to settle there. It’s basically a survival thing. My body knows that it is not getting as much food as it used to, so it is trying to “hold on” to fat in order to avoid starvation.

The most important thing for me to do now is change it up. I’ve been eating the same thing for breakfast for weeks, so I’m going to vary it more. I am going to drink more water. I’m going to change my exercise regimen. I am going to make sure I am eating ENOUGH (sounds odd, but eating too few calories is actually one of the common reasons people hit a weight loss plateau).

There is a psychological aspect to this as well. Now that I’m so close to my goal, and I am looking different, people are making more comments. Most of the time they are lovely comments, but I’m also getting, “you don’t need to lose any more weight” and “look how much you’ve lost, it’s not going to matter if you have dessert/cake/takeaways”.
This couldn’t be further from the truth! I actually have to try HARDER now than I have been. I need to be MORE vigilant, and MORE motivated. I need to remind myself that I am NOT at my goal yet, so it is NOT time to relax and undo all my hard work!

I know I will get there. It might take longer than I originally expected, but I WILL get there!

    Yay you, Hannah!

Am sitting here nodding my head at EVERYTHING you have written here, lol. Can 100% relate.

May be putting the cat among the pigeons here, BUT, I wonder if people say that “you don’t need to lose anymore weight” say that because they are insecure about their own weight situation, not so much out of concern for us.

That a huge amount of weight Hannah well done. And as you say putting that cake in now will not help.
It is easy to get used to eating less funny as that sounds and then not have enough.
I have just started doing the weighing in at ww now so thanks to you after 5 weeks on it I now have a job there too. Hope it keeps me motivated.

Yay, what a fabulous result! That’s awesome! And to only be 1kg away from goal? Perfect! When I read the comment ‘you don’t need to lose any more weight’ it just could be a compliment too instead of a negative statement or an insecure comment. I can see myself saying it as a compliment. I am sure you will be at goal in a couple of weeks! It’s nice to see you have a plan in place too and what things to do differently. Awesome!

    Hi Han

You’re doing really well. I can relate to those comments as I’ve had the same thing. Go for Gold and achieve that goal that you’ve set – you’ll get a great deal of satisfaction. And, you know that the goal that you’ve set is a healthy one.
You’re are looking fantastic by the way!!
