Me & Him
August 4, 2008
Teeni tagged me for this fun meme about me & my significant other:
1. What is his name? Rob.
2. Who eats more? He does. Remember, I’m trying to lose weight!
3. Who said, “I love you” first? He did. We’d been going out for about 6 weeks. I had written in my diary: “I really think I’m in love now – things feel really different all of a sudden, I’m not sure why but it’s awesome. I want to tell him, but I don’t know what he’ll think.”
The next day, he said those 3 little words to me. And being all cool & sophisticated, I replied by saying “really?” … duh!
4. Who is taller? He is. I’m 5 foot 7 and he’s 6 foot 2.
The next question seems to have vanished somewhere in cyberspace, but Teeni made up her own one so I’ll copy her …
5. Who drives most when you are out together? He does.
6. Who is more sensitive? Definitely me!
7. Who does the laundry? We share most household chores, laundry being one of them.
8. Who sleeps on the right side of the bed? He does. I sleep on the left side. I have always slept on that side, and don’t think I’d want to swap. I like it.
9. Who pays the bills? Um, nobody? Doesn’t everybody else have their bills set up as automatic payments?? But on the off-chance that we had a bill to pay that wasn’t already set up, I would do it.
10. Who cooks more? I do, but he does cook quite often. He cooks every Monday, and then any other night when I say “I don’t feel like cooking dinner”.
11. Who is more stubborn? Definitely me!
12. Who is the first to admit they are wrong? Him. See answer to number 11 …
13. Who has more siblings? Him. He has 3, and I have 1.
14. Who wears the pants in the relationship? He does. I believe the husband should be the head of the home. I totally respect his role, but he makes that pretty easy, as he never abuses his position. We make big decisions together, and do most things as a team.
15. What do you like to do together? Hang out at the beach, swim, snorkel, go out for coffee (or in my case, hot chocolate), listen to music, watch movies, go for walks, watch rugby.
16. Who eats more sweets? I do. Or should I say I did? I am trying to tame my sweet tooth. Rob has more of a savoury tooth.
17. Guilty Pleasures? No guilt here!
18. How did you meet? At church.
19. Who asked whom out first? We were best friends for about 2 years before we started “going out”. But he was the one who let slip first that he liked me “more than a friend”. Good thing he did, or it might never have happened. I had been secretly in love with him for the previous 18 months, but I was too chicken to tell him!
20. Who kissed who first? He kissed me. And I still remember everything about it.
21. Who proposed? He did. It was very romantic. We both wrote poems about the event a few months later. You can see which one of us is the talkative one, LOL!
Mine:
It seems like only yesterday on a long, deserted beach
You got down on one knee and my heart skipped a beat
You changed our lives with those four words and tears rolled down my face
Tears of joy as I looked around the most romantic place.
Waves were crashing on the sand that autumn afternoon
The sun broke through the clouds above and shone on me and you
A strange low mist lay in the sky from freshly fallen rain
Rain that stopped so you could make the day a special one.
My eyes found yours, my knees grew weak, I fell into your arms
I whispered “yes” through the tears, and tried to remain calm
You showed a ring – your promise, a symbolic way to say
That you would always stay with me and love would guide our way.
I took your hand in mine, we ran laughing up the beach
Our joy and laughter filled the air, we were so carefree
My life changed from that day on, I’ll never be the same
And we will be together for the rest of our days.
I always will remember how you made our dreams come true
That special day when we began this journey, exciting and new
It’s been five months and every night I dream about the day
The day we start our lives anew, together, all the way.
I cannot wait to be with you, to live beside you as your wife
There’s so much love I want to give, to last throughout your life
You are the man that I adore, you mean the world to me
I thank the Lord that He could see the way it was to be.
His:
It seems like a lifetime since I bent my knee
In the sand and surf and asked would you marry me?
You answer so soft that I hardly did hear
But seeing your face knew that joy brought that tear.
Your countenance changed from annoyance with flies
To something beyond happy, and mixed with surprise
The ring that I gave on that misty, grey day
Just a symbol of what every day I will say.
I love you in ways which these words will not show
So I’ll put them to action and this way you’ll know
By the things that I do, you’ll know in your heart
Our love is forever and never will we part.
22. His best features and qualities? He is kind. He generous. He is so even-tempered. He completely understands me. He is a great listener. He knows how to speak my love language (words of affirmation). He can fix almost anything, and prides himself on doing a good job.
23. Tag some people. I’m tagging these people:

Those poems are incredible. Goodness, you could have used them as your wedding vows. You really are both so very talented. I loved your answers. But okay, I have to say about number 22 – I started thinking dirty and when you said your “language of love, (positive affirmation)” I was thinking “yes, yes, YES” in a Meg Ryan voice in my head. LOL. Just kidding.

Wow, those poems are so romantic. It’s always interesting how people meet and the relationship evolves. Good to look back and remember and rekindle those first feelings of like then love.
