The pox has hit again!

July 22, 2008

You guessed it – Ethan now has chickenpox!
Just when Tyler is finally back to normal. ;-)

We did send Ethan to school on Monday, but I kept him home today. He was coughing quite a lot this morning, and felt a little warm. Even though he didn’t seem that unwell, I just had a funny feeling that I should keep him home.
By lunchtime, he really didn’t seem that sick. When I suggested he go to school for the afternoon, he replied, “but you’ve already rung the office and booked it in.” LOL!

I checked him periodically for “spots” during the day — nothing. I decided to do one last check at bedtime. Lo and behold, I found 2 spots on his back (at the fluid-filled stage).

I’m so glad I kept him home today, as he would have been very infectious. I guess the “funny feeling” was my mother’s intuition. Yay, I have some of that!

Poor little guy was really upset at bedtime, because he doesn’t want to miss school. :-(
He said, “poor Mrs Nicholson, she is going to miss me so much, because I’m so good!” … ROFL!
I told him I’d go and see his teacher tomorrow and get some work for him to do while he’s off school. I also suggested buying a special exercise book for him to work in while he’s sick, which he can “hand in” to Mrs Nicholson when he gets back to school. That cheered him up a LOT.

Sigh. Ethan is JUST like me. I used to set myself assignments to do in the school holidays. I remember doing one about birds when I was about 8. I copied page after page of text from my encyclopaedia, and drew intricate pictures of different birds.
Rob finds it all rather hilarious: “don’t people get beat up for doing stuff like that?”

Ahem. Back to the topic at hand.

I feel so sorry for Ethan. The school holidays were very boring for him, as we couldn’t really go anywhere with Tyler. He never complained about it though. He was excited to finally be back at school, and now he’ll be home for days on end, AGAIN. He will also miss out on his team’s soccer photo this Thursday, and of course he will miss his game on Saturday. Life is not much fun for him at the moment! I am planning to go shopping tomorrow and get him a few goodies to help ease the disappointment of it all.

Oh, and in case you’re wondering, Rob is showing NO signs of the pox. He doesn’t have any cold/flu symptoms, which I would have expected him to have by now if he was going to get it.

Back to playing nurse for me!

Wow, what a hit! I don’t know if dealing with more than one having chickenpox at a time and getting them done or having them spaced out. At least you will be a pro by the time my girls get it and I can ask for advice ;) Mine are still showing no signs. I’m counting down to Friday thinking they may peak then lol. Hang in there and hopefully Rob will miss it completely ;) If ya need any errands done or need to pop round for any reason, let me know.

Poor Ethan!! I hope he gets better soon!

Congrats on the weight loss, though. (Sorry I’m so behind, but we have company. I KNOW.)

Oh no! Round 2 huh! I do hope Rob doesn’t end up with them, so far so good :-)

Ethan and Jack are so much alike, he hates missing school too. But he never has taken it to the extreme of wanting to do extra work…yet!

Rob’s comment about getting beat up was funny, I laughed out loud!

The chickenpops again? Your kids sure do like school. Actually when I think about it, my two liked school when they were younger but as they got older and the homework took up more time their delight in school started to diminish.

I hope Ethan feels better soon so he can gte back to school and soccer.

Aww, Hannah! Guess it was inevitable that Ethan would come down with the c-pox.

He is so sweet what he said. Great idea getting him some work to do while he is in quarantine. Being sick is sooooooo boring for kids.

OMG, I can’t believe that you used to do what I did. I started the copying out of Encyclopedias at around 7 years of age. My subject was Ireland, the Potato Famine in particular. Every year I would do the same thing, same topic, LOL.

I am cracking up here because I just can’t believe someone else did that too, heehee.

Take care of each other and I hope Ethan is better in record time. xxS

Oh dear poor Ethan!! Hope he gets better soon. Just think – now you have done the chicken pox thing so you don’t need to do it again. Unless of course… Rob comes down with it. FX he doesn’t!!

Poor Ethan – I was so hoping he might have missed it, or gained himself some immunity. But there you go! Still, better now than later…. just hope Rob doesn’t catch them now. Yikes!

Oh the poor thing. What a bummer missing the soccer photo!! I laughed about him saying he was so good. My son has a friend also called Ethan. When I went to parent teacher last term, I was told that the teacher wouldn’t have much to say to Ethan’s Mum because Ethan was perfect!

Hope he gets better soon :)

Oh the poor little guy. I always hated to miss school too and look at me now…a teacher! Having said that I still hate missing school – I miss my class too much. I used to do the “holiday project’ thing too. My pet topics were Ancient Egypt and the Tudors.
Take care of yourself Hannah as well as your boys (the big one and the little ones).
I hope Rob manages to stay chicken pox free.
