Inside my head

1. My car.
How about an update?

Well, it’s been 2 weeks since the accident and during this time Rob has been dealing with our insurance company. More precisely, he has been dealing with a number of different people from our insurance company who have been telling him a number of different things.

Yes, you can do the entire claim over the phone. No, you need to fill in a claim form. All you need to do is get a quote from XYZ Panelbeaters. No, you actually need somebody to come and assess your vehicle at the Panelbeaters. Oops, nobody can come today, so can you ask the panelbeater to take digital photos? I’m sorry, but we only received half of the first page of your claim form when you faxed it through. No, we didn’t think to ring you and tell you that so you could fax it again.

Ugh.

It should come as no surprise to discover that I am still driving my banged-up car around. I have no idea when it will be getting fixed.

There is a light at the end of the tunnel, however.
Yesterday there was a knock at the door. I answered it to find a young Asian man, who extended his hand and introduced himself as “Eric”. He then began to apologise profusely, bowing every few seconds, as he explained that his mother had caused the damage to my car. Apparently she is here on holiday from Hong Kong, and is not very good at driving (no kidding). Since the accident, Eric has been unable to sleep. He asked his mother if she had damaged another car, and all she could say was “I don’t know, very very scary, bla bla bla.” (his words).
The police had paid Eric and his mother a visit yesterday morning, and he came round here immediately to apologise and provide full details for us to give the insurance company.

Hooray!

I can’t help but think if the police had visited Eric say, 13 days ago, we would have saved a lot of hassle with our insurance company! Oh well, at least things will finally get sorted out now.

2. My boys are sick. :-(

Tyler has a bad cough which now sounds like croup, while Ethan has a headache and a temperature. They are both home today, and I’m taking them to the doctor shortly.
I also feel decidedly seedy this morning, so I’m probably coming down with the same thing (whatever it is).
We are very fortunate that we haven’t had any other colds/bugs this winter, unlike most people. I just hope our first one doesn’t drag on too long.

3. NOISE.

I am (hopefully, as long as this dreaded lurgy doesn’t get any worse) going to the NOISE music conference this weekend with my church music team. It starts on Thursday night, and runs all day Friday and Saturday. I’m looking forward to it, but I’m going to really miss my boys!

4. Another blog award.

I received this lovely award (twice!) from 2 of my special blogging buddies, Teeni and Kami:

Thanks, guys! You are both wonderful friends, and I can’t imagine my life without knowing you.

5. Weight Watchers.

I joined on Monday. I also quit my gym membership. I’ve been finding it really hard to fit my workouts in, and I couldn’t justify spending $60/month on nothing. So I decided to spend the money on WW meetings instead.

Some history for you …

I did WW 8 years ago, before I had kids. I had done the stereotypical newlywed thing and gained 10kg (22lb) during our first year of marriage. After joining WW, I lost 15kg (33lb) and became a Lifetime Member. I maintained my weight for almost a year, and then I got pregnant with Ethan. I gained over 20kg (44lb) during that pregnancy (yikes!), although I managed to lose most of the weight after he was born. But 5kg (11lb) lingered. I only gained about 15kg when I was pregnant with Tyler, and I managed to lose most of it after he was born. But another 5kg lingered, resulting in a 10kg excess which has, sadly, become “part of me”.
Over the past 3 years, I have tried to lose that weight on my own by going to the gym and eating healthily (sometimes). But progress has been S-L-O-W, and I want to see results, so I decided to head back to WW. Because quite simply, I know it works. I’m living proof that it works.

I’m hoping to get back to my goal weight by the end of the year. And once I’m there, I will no longer have to pay for meetings (the perk of being a Lifetime Member).

Wish me luck!

GOOD LUCK! I’m trying to lose weight that I’ve had with me for the last few years too. I’m 10 lbs down, so I know you can do it too!!! Hope the colds don’t last long and yay for car progress! :)

I love WW after losing 77 pounds. I could not have done it without them and I still have a long way to go.

Hope your family feels better. It still freaks me out when you talk about winter because we are going through a heat wave the last three days with temperatures in the 90’s which never happens where I live.

Hopefully you will get all that car accident stuff straightened out quickly.

so many things going on Hannah, good luck at the doctors and with the weight fight….its never ending is it…as for the fight with the insurance company…don’t let them get the better of you…you would think it was their money not yours…you pay for a service…demand it! that’s my theory…why pay all that money out for insurance if its not going to be there when you need it!

Why didn’t the police get in touch with this guy Eric sooner?? Guess it just wasn’t high on their list of things to do, I’m sure both parties would have preferred it have been sorted out sooner!

    good luck with WW

Great to hear that you are finally getting somewhere with the car.
Not good to hear the boys are unwell, hope they are better soon.
At least with WW you know its something that will work for you and you know its not a waste of time…good luck and I hope you get to your goal weight by the end of the year.

What a relief that “Eric” fronted up (no doubt the visit from the Police gave him the required prod, lol). When my car got hit and run and there were no witnesses I lost my no claims bonus of many years standing, which naturally made me spew!

Sorry to hear your babies are sick. Hope their recovery is extra speedy. :)

Yep, Weigh Watchers is the ticket IMO. Only thing I know that has consistantly worked for the majority of people I know. Thinking of heading back there myself. Unfortunately the 7kg I lost over the past few months is rapidly stacking back on since starting the weaning process with Bubba. Meh, re. the gym. A brisk walk is free and 10 times better for us IMO.

Hope the bugs don’t stay round too long Hannah. What a pain with the insurance company but at least he’s come forward now and so should speed up the whole process for you. Good luck with WW.

Oh sucky on the germs, hope it doesn’t turn into anything for any of you. All the best with WW, you have the best attitude in the world, so I’m sure it won’t be long before your seeing the results that your after.

Well hope that you have come away from the doctors today with enough meds for the family. Poor wee fellas. It’s not nice when children are sick … but then hey, as a parent it’s not nice either – you know what I mean.

WW goal … good on you!!!

The car thing, what a mess, I am sorry for the delays and such. But how great that Eric came by to apologize! Though I do hope he doesn’t allow his mother to drive anymore, sheesh…..

Good luck with the WW, though I know you don’t need luck, you will do great :-)

Hope the boys are better ASAP :-)

Huh – if they drive in Hong Kong like they do over here (which I suspect they do) … then yep they are bad drivers!!! You need eyes on every side of your head! Glad he came round though to apologise and sort things out. Hope your boys get well soon, all the best for the “noise” :-) and go you on the WW goal. (I put on 20kgs for both my pregancies too and 5kg stayed on after #1, but with #2 I am now 7kg under what I was before I had #1, think it’s the heat here and breastfeeding (lots! #2 is greedy!!).

Ugh -hate having to deal with insurance etc etc. Glad Eric finally got himself motivated to come and apologise!

Think I might be getting the same bug as you. Not good not good. Wish we could both go to bed (uh… our own beds LOL!) and recover but that is like impossible with kids and work eh?

Good luck with the WW – it will be done!

Congrats on your award and good luck with WW. I never joined but had a friend give me the old books years ago and I just did it on my own and lost 28 lbs (not sure the kgs!). You’re right – it does work. Of course that was pre-kids for me also!

Hope your boys feel better soon!

First off the weight thing which is foremost in my mind as I have decided to try and lose weight again. I’ve been on ww, kiwi kiss which I did lose it with and the latest round was Jenny Craig which was great but so expensive in fact I think I am now feeding my whole family for the price of a week of jc meals. Yuk I am trying it alone no money in the budget but I know I can do it. Good luck for you too.
Quite big of Eric coming to see you really I admire him for that. Insurance companies are a pain. I crashed my car on the way home from parachute last year it took at least a month to get the money.
Enjoy the noise conference. fun fun fun.
