Ethan had his 6th birthday party yesterday, although his actual birthday is not until tomorrow.
He had 6 friends over for the afternoon. The theme was SpongeBob SquarePants! Who lives in a pineapple under the sea …
* There were presents.

* There was party food.

* There were games.

Pin the tie on SpongeBob was a lot of fun. I had drawn a giant SpongeBob on a piece of polystyrene, which was super easy for the kids to push the pin into.
Rob put together SpongeBob’s Treasure Hunt and he did a fantastic job. No surprise there, as this is truly his element. He loves kids, games, and having fun! All the clues related to SpongeBob and his friends who live in Bikini Bottom.
He also had the brilliant idea of tying all the boys together on a long rope while they did the treasure hunt. Each person had a turn being the “leader” at the front of the line, and they got to read the clue to the others. Then they would go to the back of the line and someone else would have a turn at being in front.

And of course there was the old favourite, Pass the Parcel.
* There was marshmallow toasting on the back lawn.

One of the mums commented on this activity being “such a boy thing to do” when she came to pick up her son. It was Rob’s idea (of course!) and all the kids loved it. They were so surprised when they went outside and saw the fire! Definitely the highlight of the party.
* There was cake.

I was happy with how the cake turned out. Ethan thought the nose was wrong (it should have been “sticking out”) but other than that, he was really happy with it.
I should probably mention the small crisis involving yellow food colouring (or lack thereof).
Tyler and I did the grocery shopping on Friday and bought all the party food. I was positive that I already had yellow food colouring at home, so I didn’t write it on my list. But when I got home, I discovered I had red, blue and green liquid food colouring (3 bottles of each?!), as well as red & black powder food colouring. No yellow. So after school on Friday, I stopped by the local cake shop to buy some yellow powder. They were all out of yellow. I went up to Foodtown later that evening and they had SOLD OUT! I rang mum; she didn’t have any yellow. I rang Christi; she wasn’t home.
I was feeling slightly panicked. I knew I had NO TIME the following day to go on a hunt for yellow food colouring, because I was going to an all-day seminar. The next closest supermarket to our house is 15 minutes away. I didn’t want to drive all the way down there and find they didn’t have any either, so I rang first. Luckily they had plenty, and I was able to nip out during the seminar lunch break and pick some up. Phew!
* And at the end of the day, there was a very happy (albeit tired!) little boy tucked up in his bed, looking forward to Tuesday.
Looking forward to finally being 6.
P.S. I have to wish a big Happy Birthday to my little sis! Leah, I hope you have an awesome day! I love you so much – see you at Ma & Pa’s tonight.
Looks like a very successful Spongebob party with lots of fun had by everyone. What a excellent job you did with the cake Hannah-glad you found some yellow food colouring.

What a fantastic party Hannah, the guests will remember this for years to come for a number of reasons. The treasure hunt was different and everyone got to have a go at reaidng the clues and being in the front. Then the marshellow roasting, thats such a cool memory. I can see why Ethan was pretty tried but happy. Great cake too and I loved your drawing for pin the tie on Bob. Happy Brithday Ethan for Tuesday.

You did a FANTASTIC job on that cake! The treasure hunt with the rope was a great idea (plus you don’t lose anyone – LOL), and the fire pit for marshmallows was awesome. Rob truly is a kid at heart so he knows what the boys love.
I’m so glad Ethan had a good day! He really deserved it because he has been such a great kid all year! You done good, Hannah!

You did an awesome job on everything for Ethan’s birthday party! You and Rob are very talented. I love it all. It looks like a great time was had by all. Your hedgehogs turned out really cute as well.

great job hannah, I have really loved my boys parties this year, it was great to have their help in organising although I had a lot of surprises too, which was just great seeing their faces light up. We have had a few school parties this year (it feels like hundreds!) and the kids still talk about the space cake that was on fire, makes me kinda warm and fuzzy knowing I have made a memory that they will remember for a long time. the toasting of marshmallows was a wonderful idea, will keep that up my sleeve for next year. I bet Mummy and Daddy were very tired too! check my photos out, space party and pirate party, some are on facebook
cheers
Leonie (oh only one more sleep til he is 6 then if he is anything like my boys the countdown to 7 will start soon after!!)

Can you both please come to my place and do my daughter’s 14th Party for me in 3 weeks time? Wow you did an awesome job…..I’m really not into my kids parties – I’m one of those slack parents that would far sooner go to a “Party” place than have it at home – you make me feel so bad Hannah! LOL
Happy 6th Birthday to Ethan for tomorrow!
